2006 Walkathon Success
Thanks to each and everyone, that raised pledges for this years successful Underground Railroad walkathon. All pledges collected, will go directly into programming for the children and also helps to ensure that ACHA remains self-funding and community supported. This is critical for us....because ACHA can develop and deliver a curriculum that we know, will benefit our children and do justice to our history and culture.
The weather conspired against us this year, and we had to change the route for the Underground Railroad walkathon. We gave in this year because the scheduled creek crossing, would have become an unscheduled river crossing. We did not want to tempt Mother Nature, so an alternative route was quickly put together....thanks to the efforts of the 12+ students. The Underground Railroad continued....albeit, a different route.
The children did an outstanding job in raising pledges and did an even better job, as they trekked in the backwoods of Centennial College, towards the final objective....freedom in Canada. See attached pictures......one with a Slave Helper providing assistance, and the other with a Slave Catcher, trying to steer one of the groups into a trap. Take a look....you will be able to tell the difference.
