Remembering Martin Luther King Jr.

Honouring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Examining key moments in Dr. Martin Luther King's life allows us to extract lessons and messages for our present generation, particularly in relation to the principle of "Umoja".

Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision for unity centered on building a "Beloved Community" where people of all backgrounds live in harmony, judged by character rather than color, guided by nonviolent love and mutual respect. He called for overcoming division and hatred so that communities could survive and flourish together, arguing that unity is a deliberate choice necessary for a just, inclusive, and thriving society. King emphasized our deep interconnectedness, urging humanity to cooperate or “perish as fools,” a warning that extends to economic justice, shared responsibility, and the collective work required to secure dignity and opportunity for all.
